Jacob Goes To Karate
When Jacob is here on weekends, we had previously set him up with a gymnastics class, called Tumble Tots. He loved that class, however about a month ago the instructor found a new job (obviously more hours and better pay), so the Tumble Tots class ended.
We searched for quite awhile for something else for him to do, and finally came up with a karate class that is not too far from where we live. He went last Saturday for his "trial run" -- was half scared to death, and didn't know whether to cry or TRY to smile!
The instructor assured us that young children ARE scared the first few times simply because they don't know the moves, however he said that Jacob WOULD get more and more involved as time went on. The MAIN thing he stressed is NOT to let Jacob decide he doesn't want to go back because of being afraid the first time, and that the discipline of karate is good for kids.
Well, today was our second day (we signed him up during the week, so there's no turning back!) -- he was fine with it until we parked out front of the building. He started to cry and I told him he'd be just fine -- mamaw would be watching him, and besides, he'll get his NEW uniform today.
It took a little while for him to get "unscared", and actually talked to the instructor a little. From time to time the instructor asked him how this person or that person did at jumping, so Jacob could say "he did good", so that helped as well.
At the end of the practice he got his uniform, and as we were leaving he wanted to strip down in the parking lot to put it on. I let him put on the shirt but told him we should wait until we got home to put on the pants.
Here he is - isn't he just the cutest little "karate man" you've ever seen???

He is taking a nap in the outfit and asked if he could wear it to church tomorrow. I told him that we wear church clothes to church, which was fine with him. However he said as soon as we get home from church he wants to put it back on so he could wear it home to show Mommy and Daddy.
